Motiva Preservé: A Less Invasive Breast Augmentation Now at Richmond Surgical Arts

Dr. Lynam is now offering Motiva Preservé®, and it’s worth a few minutes to explain what it is. Because it’s a genuinely different way to approach breast augmentation, not just a new name on an old procedure.

Here’s the short version. Most breast augmentations create the pocket for the implant by cutting through breast tissue. Preservé is designed to do that part differently. Using two patented Motiva® tools, it eases the tissue aside instead of cutting through it, with the goal of preserving your natural breast tissue, nipple sensation, and chest muscles. The incision is small, it’s often done with minimal anesthesia, and it’s designed for a quicker recovery.

Why people are paying attention

The draw is easy to understand. A lot of patients hesitate on breast augmentation not because they don’t want the result, but because they’re wary of what the surgery does to their body along the way. Preservé speaks straight to that. A smaller incision, the aim of keeping nipple sensation, and a recovery built to be gentler are all things people ask about constantly.

I’ll be honest about the framing though. Those are the goals of the technique, not promises. Everyone heals differently, and your result depends on your anatomy and your surgeon’s plan.

Who it tends to suit

Preservé is built for a primary breast augmentation (your first one), or a primary augmentation paired with a lift. In general it’s for healthy patients, 22 and older, who don’t have an active infection and aren’t pregnant or nursing. If you’ve already had implants and you’re thinking about a revision, that’s usually a different path, and a consultation is the place to sort that out. The honest part

Preservé is still a surgery. Breast implants carry real risks, including capsular contracture, rupture, infection, and the possibility of needing another operation later. Implants also aren’t lifetime devices, so monitoring and the occasional replacement come with the territory.

One more thing worth knowing: some of the Preservé numbers floating around online come from outside the US, using a Motiva implant that isn’t FDA-approved here. In the US, the tissue preservation system is paired with FDA-approved Motiva SmoothSilk® implants, which have been studied in the FDA clinical trial data [1]. So if you’re comparing, make sure you’re comparing what’s actually offered locally.
