Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Richmond, VA

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

More Oxygen to Every Tissue

Inside a pressurized chamber, your body takes in more oxygen than it can at normal air pressure. That oxygen dissolves into your blood and reaches the tissue that is healing, from a surgical incision to muscles tired from training.

Richmond Surgical Arts now has a hyperbaric chamber in a private room at the Stony Point Parkway office. Surgical patients can add sessions to their recovery, and anyone can book a session.

What Hyperbaric Sessions Support

Healing After Surgery

Healing tissue needs oxygen to repair. Sessions deliver more of it in the weeks after your procedure. See post-op surgery care.

Swelling & Bruising

Added oxygen supports your body as swelling goes down and bruising fades after surgery.

Skin

Your body uses oxygen to build collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm. Sessions pair with skin treatments and surgery.

Energy & Focus

A session is time to rest while you breathe concentrated oxygen. Sessions support energy and mental clarity.

Sleep

Reclined, quiet rest in a private room. Regular sessions support deeper sleep.

Workout Recovery

Muscles repair with oxygen. Sessions support recovery after hard training.

Sessions work best as a series. Call the office at 804.560.5260 to plan yours.

Why Hyperbaric at RSA

Hospital hyperbaric chambers treat medical emergencies such as carbon monoxide poisoning. A mild chamber uses lower pressure, so a session is comfortable time you can spend reading, working or resting.

The chamber sits alongside Dr. Lynam’s surgical and med spa care, so oxygen sessions fit into the same plan as your procedure and your skin care.

Private. The chamber has its own room.

Comfortable. A reclining chair and wide windows, with room to read, work or sleep.

Part of your recovery. Dr. Lynam decides at your post-op visit when sessions fit your healing.

Open to everyone. No surgery needed to book.

Ask about hyperbaric sessions at your next visit.

Your First Session

What to Expect

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and eat a normal meal. When you arrive, remove jewelry and shoes and settle into the reclining chair. Staff closes the chamber and starts the oxygen.

As pressure rises, your ears feel full, like air travel. Swallowing, yawning or chewing gum clears them. Then rest, read or work. Phones and laptops are welcome; charging cords stay outside.

At the end, pressure lowers over a few minutes and you return to your day. Drink water, and skip flying or diving for 24 hours.

Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Right for You?

Hyperbaric sessions suit healthy adults who want support for recovery, skin, energy or sleep.

A cold, allergy or sinus congestion can keep your ears from equalizing, so reschedule if you have one. Talk to your doctor first if you have lung disease, a history of collapsed lung, recent ear surgery or a seizure disorder, or if you are pregnant.

Not sure? Call the office and ask before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does hyperbaric oxygen therapy hurt?
No. Your ears feel full as pressure rises. Swallowing, yawning or chewing gum clears it. Tell staff at any time and you can stop the session.
How long is a session?
60 or 90 minutes, plus a few minutes to pressurize and release.
How soon after surgery can I start?
Dr. Lynam decides at your post-op visit, based on your procedure and how you are healing.
Can I use my phone or laptop?
Yes. Charge it first, since charging cords stay outside the chamber. Food and drinks stay outside too.

Who can book a session?
