Individual results vary.
The First Week: Rest and Healing
Days 1-2: You’ll go home the same day (outpatient at the surgery center). Expect a snug dressing, tightness, and swelling. Discomfort is usually described as tight and sore rather than sharply painful, and is controlled with prescribed medication. Rest with your head elevated.
Days 3-5: Swelling and bruising peak around day 3, then start to settle. You’ll have a follow-up to check healing and often remove dressings and sutures on Dr. Lynam’s schedule.
Days 6-7: Most people feel notably better: up and around the house, off stronger medication.
Weeks 2-3: Looking Social
By around two weeks, most patients feel comfortable being seen. Bruising is largely resolved or easily covered, and residual swelling is mild enough that most people won’t notice anything but that you look rested. Many return to non-strenuous work in this window.
Weeks 4-6: Back to Normal
By four to six weeks, you can generally resume exercise and normal activity as cleared. Swelling continues to fade and the result keeps refining.
Months: The Final Result
Deeper swelling resolves gradually over the following months, and incision lines continue to mature and fade for up to a year. The final, settled result appears as the tissues fully relax into their new, repositioned position. That’s the payoff of working at the deep layer rather than the skin.
