A Face Is Read as a Whole, Not a List of Parts
When you look at someone, you don’t inventory their neck, then their jawline, then their cheeks. You read the whole face at once, and your eye instantly senses whether it’s in harmony. That’s why a facelift that perfects one region but ignores another still looks off: lift the midface but leave a heavy, banded neck, or tighten the jawline under a sagging brow and tired eyes, and the balance breaks. The eye notices, even when it can’t say why.
So the real work of a facelift isn’t pulling harder. It’s addressing the regions, neck, jowls, midface, brow, eyes, and skin, together, in proportion, so the finished face reads as one rested, coherent whole. Harmony, not tension, is what looks natural.
The Science Makes the Art Possible
Artistry without technique is just a nice idea. The reason a harmonious result is achievable is the deep plane technique: working beneath the skin at the SMAS and releasing the retaining ligaments, so the deeper structure is repositioned and the skin simply follows. Because tension lives on the deep layer instead of the skin, the surgeon can restore each region fully without the stretched look. The science is what lets the art be subtle.
No two faces need the same combination, so Dr. Lynam doesn’t offer a standard operation. He designs each plan around the individual face: which regions to address, which techniques, in what proportion, and how to sequence them for a single balanced result. That’s the difference between a procedure and a plan, and it’s why the consultation matters as much as the surgery.
