Breast Augmentation Guide Part 1 – How the Surgery is Performed
Breast augmentation is the most common type of cosmetic surgery performed in the United States. Thousands of women opt for breast augmentation every year, in order to improve their self-image and boost their confidence.
Traditionally, breast surgery is performed by placing the implants underneath the breasts. Although this is effective, it does come with one big downside and that is the scars that are left behind on the breasts themselves. A good surgeon will always ensure that the scars are as well hidden as possible but in truth, scars that are left on the breasts are from ideal.
Dr Lynam offers a type of no-scar breast surgery known as transaxillary sub-muscular breast augmentation. By using this technique, he is able to successfully perform breast augmentation without any scars being left on the breasts themselves.
How the procedure is performed
The main way that transaxillary sub-muscular breast augmentation differs from more traditional breast augmentation methods is in how the implants are placed. With this type of surgery, the incisions are made at the armpits and the implants are placed using an endoscope (a small surgical camera).
The implants are placed below the pectoralis muscle and great care is taken to ensure that the implants look as natural as possible. The surgery typically takes around 1 hour to complete and is done under general anaesthetic. Side effects such as swelling, bruising and soreness are to be expected in the first few weeks following your surgery. You will also be advised to perform massage exercises on your breasts for the first few days after surgery.
Types of implants
The two main types of implants that have been traditionally used in breast augmentation surgery are saline and silicone. However there is now a third option available that is ideally suited to the transaxillary method. This type of implant, called IDEAL IMPLANT, was specially designed by a plastic surgeon and combines a perfectly natural look and feel for the best results possible.
Dr Lynam is currently the only doctor in Richmond who offers this type of no-scar breast augmentation. He has successfully performed the procedure on countless patients, who have been delighted with their results.
